GEOMETRY

Indicator 1:   Use deductive and inductive reasoning to recognize and apply properties of geometric figures.

Elephant puzzle—requires the use of spatial perception and problem solving skills.  This puzzle can be found under a geometry search at www.sdedweb.com

Indicator 2:  Use properties of geometric figures to solve problems from a variety of perspectives.

Use miras to study reflection and symmetry.  Miras can be ordered from most math supply catalogs for about $5 each.

 NUMBER SENSE

Indicator 1:  Use structural characteristics of the set of real numbers and its subsets.

Indicator 2:  Apply operations within the set of real numbers.

“Go Number”—a “Go Fish” type card game with a set being four different representations of the same number.  This can be varied to meet the level of your students.

Master copy is available at our websites:

Indicator 3:  make conjectures, predictions, or estimations in the process of problem solving, and verify or justify the results.

See M & M activity under Statistics and Probability.

STATISTICS & PROBABILITY

Indicator 1:  Use statistical models to gather, analyze, and display data to draw conclusions.
